Compare estimates to actuals

Perform BvA analysis on your financial data across multiple dimensions

Written by Tara Lee

Once a model with both estimates and actuals has been created, navigate to the Table tab to view financial data in a grid format. Toggle on the Comparison mode to view estimated costs compared to actual spend.

This view will automatically calculate the variance between estimates and actuals. Adjust the conditional formatting from the toolbar as needed.

Create and save custom views

There are multiple ways to customize the model table view to compare the most relevant categories of data. Look to the toolbar at the top to adjust these settings.

  • Interval: Choose between Months, Quarters, or Years

  • Group: Pick the primary, secondary, and tertiary grouping of the table

    • Accounting category: Shows the accounting categories as the group

    • Source: Shows the sources (i.e., programs, projects, budgets) as the group

    • Tags: Shows the tags (e.g., vendors, etc.) as the group

  • Filter: Filter down to a subset of data to display

Once you have customized the table, save the view by clicking the Save icon in the top right. This will save the view to the left sidebar of the Model. Create and save multiple views to slice and dice your financial data in different ways.

QuickBooks mapping settings

To map transactions from QuickBooks to estimates in Orchestra, use the various mapping options in the QuickBooks settings page (found in Organization Settings > Integrations)

  • Category mapping: Map QB category(s) to an Orchestra category so that BvA can be performed at the accounting category level

  • Source mapping: Map a QB class to an Orchestra source (e.g., Program, Budget, etc.), so that BvA can be performed per program (for example)

  • Customer mapping: Map a QB customer to an Orchestra tag (within a tag category), so that BvA can be performed per customer
